Wormley as Inspector of Gas Meters and Illuminating, signed by "R.B. Hayes" as Governor, he would be elected President of the United States in 1876; cover reduced slightly at right barely affecting 1¢, otherwise Very Fine.

Other 3¢ 1869 registered covers with large multiples include a block of six and another with strip of six prepaying the 15¢ registry fee plus 3¢ letter rate. This is the only recorded example of a block or strip of five prepaying the 15¢ registry fee on an entire.

A RARE DOUBLE RATE COVER FROM JAPAN BEARING THE CHINA AND JAPAN STEAM SERVICE OVAL HANDSTAMP.

This cover was carried aboard the Pacific Mail Steamship Co. "China", which left Hong Kong October 12th, Yokohama on October 23rd, and arriving in San Francisco on November 17, 1870.
