1877 (Jan. 27) Havana, Cuba to Charleston, S.C. via Key West, blue folded letter datelined "p City of New York, Habana 27th January 1877", blue "Guillo, Cesteroy Ca., Habana" company cachet on flap, red crayon "Via C Keys, pr S.S. Tappahannock" re-routing endorsement, bearing 1873, 10¢ brown, corner crease, tied by "Key West Fla. Jan 27" duplex upon arrival for the 10¢ steamship rate; small edge flaws, Very Fine and unusual.

Although only 180 miles separated Havana from Key West it was unusual for letters to be routed into the United States through Florida in the 1870s.

N. York Steamship, three strikes tie 1852, 3¢ dull red, vertical strip of three, mostly full margins affected slightly from edge placement, on cover to Newport R.I., manuscript "Due 1" for the 10¢ steamship rate, F.-V.F., an unusual steamship use; with clear 1997 P.F. certificate.
