(Globe) City, Pinal Co., Arizona (Gila), purple cds and star duplex (Meyer 9, rarity 6) tying 1883, 2¢ red brown on brown & blue allover Globe merchant shaded ad cover to Ohio; light stamp crease, F.-V.F., the only known example of this unusual Globe postmark.
Scott No. 210    Estimate $150 - 200.

Not only is this postmark unusual due to the "City" designation in town name, it also bears the Pinal county which Globe transferred from well over 10 years after this postmark was used.

Goldfield A.T., 9/17/96 (Pinal), manuscript postmark (Meyer 2, rarity 6) on 1887, 2¢ green corner card entire to Phoenix, Mesa transit and receiving backstamps; edge tears and rough opening reinforced by archival tape, F.-V.F., the only known manuscript postmark from Goldfield and only three usages recorded from this town.

Hardyville A.T., Nov 5, 1866 (Mohave), manuscript postmark (Meyer 1, rarity 6) on manuscript canceled 1864, 3¢ pink entire to Los Angeles, Cal.; reduction at right a bit into indicia, F.-V.F., a scarce early territorial usage from Hardyville, with eleven such postmarks recorded.

Hayden's Ferry, Ariz., Jul 8 (Maricopa), full clear ca. 1875-76 cds (Meyer 2, rarity 7) on 1874, 3¢ green entire to Norwich, Conn., canceled by fancy star in circle handstamp; opening edge tear at top, otherwise Very Fine.

ONE OF TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE HAYDEN'S FERRY HANDSTAMP POSTMARK.

Hayden's Ferry was established by Charles Trumbull Hayden, who left Tucson where he lived since his arrival in 1857 on the first Butterfield Overland Mail coach. He moved to the site of the future Tempe where he established a flour mill and a ferry across the river. In 1882 Hayden's land was purchased by a group of Mormons who named the community Tempe in honor of the Vale of Tempe in Greece. The post office was established April 25, 1872 as Hayden's Ferry.
