Confederacy, Alleton Tex, double-circle postmark without date ties 1862, 5¢ blue, vertical pair, small scuff and light creases, on November 12th 1862 folded letter to Houston Tex.; repaired at bottom, Very Fine and scarce.
Scott No. 7    Estimate $400 - 600.

Alleton was actually the CSA postmark for Alleytown that is located near Houston Tex. The pencil note on reverse says this was a woodcut cancel.

Lot 2475    

Confederacy, Austin Tx Jun 15, cds and matching "Paid 5" rating handstamp (CSA type B but revalue unlisted) on cover uprated with manuscript "10" and "Pd 5c" to satisfy the 500 mile letter rate to Petersburgh Va., forwarded with hand illustrated 'pointing finger' and blue "Petersburgh Va. Jul 14" cds to Charlotte N.C.; receipt docketing "June 15/61", Very Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

There was no extra charge of postage for the forwarded of first-class mail, when transmitted from the office of address to a different office. This 'forwarded' practice had its roots in the 1857 U.S. postal regulation and was continued by the CSA.

Lot 2476    

Confederacy, "Belton, Texas, Oct. 1st 1861", manuscript postmark and matching "Paid 10c" rating on orange cover to Winchester Tenn., sharp "Columbus Ky Oct 20" cds with manuscript "Missent & ford" and "Due/5" ratings, blind embossed "Chamberlin & Earle Law" corner card; reduced slightly at left, corner flaw, Very Fine.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

A RARE CSA TEXAS USE MISSENT AND FORWARDED FROM COLUMBUS KENTUCKY.

From early September 1861 until the latter part of February 1862, the Confederate forces occupied that portion of Kentucky located south and west of the Green River. Occupied post office in this area included such towns as Bowling Green, Columbus, Glasgow, Marion, Hickman and Hopkinsville. During the period of partial occupation, the occupied Kentucky was accepted into the Confederacy by the CSA Congress on December 9, 1861 as the 13th state.

Lot 2477    

Confederacy, "Bonner's Ferry (Texas), June 5th 1862", dateline on enclosed embossed lady's letter with matching cover addressed to Lieut. Allen A. Cameron, Ochiltrees' Regiment at Jefferson Tex., letter is from his wife Anna; light toning, F.-V.F., ex-Bleuler.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Bonner's Ferry (DPO 1862-1873) was located in Cherokee County. This letter predated the CSA post office, which was established on October 16th 1862 with William H. Bonner as Postmaster.

Confederacy, Brownsville Tex. Jan 20, rimless cds ties two 1862, 5¢ blue singles, mostly four margins, on orange buff cover to Ala., "Austin Tex Jul 8 1862" cds and matching "MISSENT" straightline handstamp (CSA type D), pencil "recd Aug 5/64"; two large cover tears and flap replaced, F.-V.F. appearance.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

Since docketed as received in 1864,with the fall of Vicksburg and the disruption of the west to east mails, it is possible that the letter did not reach its destination until that date.

Confederacy, Centreville Tex Apr 8, clear strike of red cds on 3¢ red star die entire to Spartanburgh, S.C.; repaired at top right, Fine, Leon County (1850-date).

There were two DPOs named Centreville that were in Gonzales County (1848-49) and Henderson County (1849). This cover is from Centerville in Leon county.
