The French system progressed from two-times, four-times and six-times rates. The 38 grams was slightly more than the five-times weight and the resulting rating was six-times.

Mar 18" exchange cds and pencil "20" cent quadruple rating (four-times the 5¢ per ½ oz. rate), carried by Cunard Line Persia from New York Mar. 18 to Liverpool arriving Mar. 28, red London (3.30) backstamp transit and black "GB/1F60c" framed accountancy handstamp, Calais (3.30) entry cds with manuscript "38" gram weight notation for six-times weight and rated manuscript "48" decimes due (6x 8-decimes), Paris arrival backstamp; bleach spot and file fold wear, F.-V.F., a scarce six-times French rate during the three-month period.Estimate $200 - 300.
Cunard Line Persia arrived off Liverpool on March 28, but owing to thick weather, she did not go up to Liverpool until the 29th. Her mails however, were sent in by steam tug on the evening of the 28th.
