Ample margins to in at left, canceled by "1" in octagon handstamp on cover to Baltimore, Md., in combination with 1857, 3¢ dull red tied by "Philadelphia, Pa., Sep 5, 1859" octagon date stamp, Blood's cds at bottom left, reverse with brown illustrated H.S. Bates tobacco merchant ad; portion of backflap missing affecting ad, F.-V.F.

Cover Group. 50 covers and a few fronts; including uncanceled 15L8 on 1847 cover to Baltimore, Md., 15L13 usages including local and to the post office including three 3¢ combinations, similar 15L14 usages showing various Blood's handstamps, mix of 15L15-17 usages, 15L18 includes two #26 combination usages, postmarks including scarce double circle date stamp in red, few stampless; condition varies, F.-V.F. overall.

Blood, Paid handstamp on cover, adhesives on cover include #15L9 (faulty), 15L9 (not canceled with cert.), five 15L14 usages including local and #11 & 65 combinations (one to Minn. territory) and 15L17 on free frank cover to Washington D.C., F.-V.F. overall.

Boyd's City Express, 1857, 2¢ dull orange on white. Large to huge margins, tied by "Paid J.T.B." handstamps, third strike at top, on cover to local street address, neat "Boyd's City Express Post Sep. 18" oval datestamp, faint vertical file fold well away from stamp, corners with toning from mounts, otherwise Very Fine, a huge stamp.

Full even margins, canceled by red boxed "Free" handstamp on locally addressed 1842 folded letter, matching "City Despatch Post, N.Y., 10 May" cds alongside; cover with small edge nick and stamp with faint tone spot at top, otherwise Very Fine; with 1998 P.F. certificate.

Roth in his Penny Post article (Oct. 1993, pg. 11).
