1857 New York, N.Y. To Havre, France. Folded letter sheet franked with 1851, 1¢ blue, type IV, two singles + 3¢ dull red, vivid colors, tied by grid handstamps, sent at 5¢ per half ounce with "8" decimes due the addressee (rate January 1st thru March 31st of 1857), red "New York, Br. Pkt., Feb 18" exchange cds; letter sheet with side flaps missing, Very Fine and choice, a lovely "three months cover", ex Noel.

Sent via the Cunard Line - Steamer Africa, departing New York on February 18th and arriving in Liverpool on March 2nd.

1857 New York, N.Y. To Paris, France. Cover with red "New York, Br. Pkt., Apr 1" exchange cds, rate of 15¢ per quarter ounce prepaid in the U.S. or 8 decimes collected in France if unpaid, post office missed the boat and charged 5¢ U.S. inland with "8" decimes due in France, Very Fine, unusual, the first day of the U.S. - French Postal Convention however this was the rate during the three month period immediately preceding the U.S. - French Postal Convention.

Sent via Cunard Line Steamer - per the steamer Africa, departing New York on April 1st and arriving in Liverpool on April 12th.

Cover franked with Carrier, 1851, 1¢ Eagle, large margins to just in at right, rich color, tied by deep blue "Cincinnati, O., Feb 24" cds, clear "New York, 3, Feb 29" cds (leap year) debit to France for U.S. inland, "8" decimes due handstamp, transit and receiving backstamps; cover with bottom flap missing and corner repair at bottom left, otherwise Very Fine, one of Two Known Usages of The 1¢ Eagle Carrier to France with only five known foreign usages originating from Cincinnati, O.

Double rate mourning cover franked with 1860, 30¢ orange tied by "New Orleans, La., May 22" Confederate State Usage cds, additionally tied by red "New York, 24, May 28" exchange cds, red French entry cds and receiving backstamp, Very Fine, a Wonderful and Rare Usage of the 1860, 30¢ Franklin Issue Used in the Confederate States, Louisiana was admitted to the Confederacy on February 4, 1861 and the Federal mails where discontinued in Confederate States on June 1, 1861, ex Birkinbine.

Printed circular headed New York, January 14 "Per ASIA", franked with 1861, 1¢ blue, two singles tied by "New York, Jan 15" cds, probably sent to Paris with address label removed, rate was 1 cent per ounce for periodicals, catalogs, or pamphlets, and domestic rates on all other printed matter in the U.S., and 15 centimes per 40 grams (about 1 1/3 ounces) due the addressee; left stamp with corner scissor separated at bottom left, F.-V.F.

Double rate cover with bold "Baltimore, Md., Feb 6" cds and matching "30" rate handstamp, "New York, 18, Feb 7" exchange cds debit to France (3 cents U.S. inland, 6 cents sea), "16" decimes due handstamp and receiving backstamp, with original enclosure from General Gustave Paul Cluseret datelined from New Orleans, La. and signed M. Brady photo of the General (hence double rate); sealed cover tear at top, otherwise Very Fine, ex Noel.
