Engraved by Fokko Mees. From the wood cut essay reductions are made by photo-mechanical means. The negatives are then reproduced and placed on the zinc plate for offset printing.

Portugal, 1928 15c Olympic Postal Tax Stamp. Tied by "Ambulancias/Avenica - Gare/24 Mai '28" double circle postmark in combination with Ceres 10c pair + 4oc on cover to Porto, Extremely Fine and rare. Scott No. RA14 Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.
This stamp was issued for the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam. The use of this stamp, in addition to regular postage was obligatory. It was valid for only three days (May 22-24, 1928). Of the monies thus obtained, 10% was retained by the Post Office and the balance was to the Portuguese Olympic Committee in support of the participating athletes at the Amsterdam Games.
Despite being relatively common as a used stamp off cover, it is very difficult to find on cover.

On June 13, 1928 Uruguay won the gold medal in football by beating Argentina 2-1. To celebrate, Uruguay issued three stamps to commemorate the victory.

The Germany Organizing Committee in Berlin using a meter slogan, started with the initial organization tasks for the Germany Olympic Committee.

1932 2¢ Olympic Hurdler, Photo Essay Printed on Card (43 x 50mm), rejected design showing Runner over Hurdle, light pencil notation .75 x .87" and at bottom right, "4 prints on matte, 4 prints on gloss", Very Fine and scarce, particularly printed directly on card, ultimately the Olympic set was issued in 3¢ & 5¢ values, for the new 3¢ domestic rate & the 5¢ international rate.Estimate $100 - 150.

1932 2¢ Olympic Runner, Large Die Essay in Deep Carmine (152 x 204mm), the Bureau of Engraving & Printing blue numeral handstamp has been erased from reverse, Extremely Fine; with 1991 A.P.S. certificate & Brazer handstamp on reverse.Scott No. unlisted Estimate $5,000 - 7,500.
The design of the essay is in deep red, while the issued stamp is in purple. Four plates were made from this die with the 2¢ denomination, however due to the rate change from 2¢ to 3¢, no plate were ever printed. Only one example of the Deep Red 2¢ Large Die Essay in known.
