Davis to Dr. Woodward regarding stamps and local fighting…I find I am at fault respecting the stamps at the time I received your order for stamps. We had trouble, the Samoans fighting in the streets, the War Ships firing over the houses, quite a tenuous (sic) time, but hope you will excuse me. I send along the later stamps and a few over.; mounting stain on backsheet, otherwise Very Fine.Estimate $100 - 150.

In combination with 1890, 2d brown orange, perf 12x11½ on cover to Washington, D.C., canceled by two strikes of circular waffle grid cancel, in conjunction with U.S. 1888, 5¢ indigo (perf at right overlapping portion of the Palm Tree cancels) and tied by a similar yet different waffle grid cancel, reverse with red "San Francisco, Paid All, Aug 4" transit cds and receiving postmark, Very Fine, an unusual combination usage with the Palm Tree issue not canceled by the usual Apia town postmark(Odenweller 15).
