Lot 1276    

Envelope, 1920, 2¢ on 3¢ dark violet, double impression of indicia, single surcharge. One indicia folded around the edge; this stunning new discovery was featured on the cover of Linn's Stamp News in the June 23, 2008, issue; this is the discovery example, Very Fine and rare; with 2007 P.S.E. certificate.
Scott No. U458n    Estimate $750 - 1,000.

After receiving a P.S.E. certificate in 2007, according to the article which accompanies this auction lot, Scott catalogue editor James E. Kloetzel informed Linn's that it would henceforth be listed as Scott U458n in the 2009 edition of the Scott U.S. specialized catalog, in which it is indeed listed but not priced.

Postal Card, 1886, 1¢ black on salmon pink. Pristine example of this very rare card, virtually Extremely Fine. UPSS No. S8 see note.

According to UPSS catalog,"Copies of this card printed on Salmon pink paper are occasionally found, and are usually identified as trial-color proofs. This color paper, however, was used for a short time as a means of counting, one sheet being inserted after each 500 of the regular stock. Failure to remove some of these sheets resulted in their being imprinted and distributed in the usual way".
