Bailey's Mills, Flo./April 25th. Manuscript postmark (type I) with the scarce "6¼" rate on folded letter to Tallahassee, letter datelined from Monticello; central file fold, Very Fine, one of only three recorded territotrial usages from Bailey's Mills. Estimate $300 - 400.
The unusual 6¼ charge was based upon circulating scrip, which was used in Florida during the 1830-40's at some post offices including Tallahassee. (see ASCC pgs XIX and 53).
