Leominster, MS April 21. Full strike blue rimless circular date stamp with starburst design at center, on 1829 folded letter to Lowell, Mass., manuscript "Paid 10" rate; few faint tone spots and minor edge wear, an Extremely Fine strike, this is the listing example in the ASCC and one of only two recorded examples of this stunning postmark.

Two similar two-line postmarks on two folded letters; "Leominster, Ms., March 16. 1835." in red with matching straight line "Paid" and manuscript "6" rate, other "Leominster, Ms., March 16. 1835." in blue with manuscript "10" rate (faint tone spots), Very Fine, postmark in red ex Jarrett.

Ludlow, Mass./Mar. 11. Red cds with "Paid" below, on printed "Post Office Stamps, Engraved on Wood, By E.S. Zeverly, P.M." circular by Mr. Chas. M. Willard illustrating the Ludlow postmark and other rating handstamps, addressed to the postmaster at Lincoln, Me.; trivial tone spots, Very Fine.

(Lynn, May the 20, 1820). Dateline on folded letter to the postmaster of Kingston, N.H., manuscript "½oz Free, Excess of weight ¼oz - 10" rating, no townmark; couple cover tears at bottom, otherwise Very Fine, an interesting and unusual usage.
Estimate    $100 - 150.

A Postmaster could send or receive letters up to ½ oz. free, but was required to pay extra weight at regular rates.

Red straight line in large circular postmark on 1842 folded letter to Boston, matching straight line Paid and manuscript "6" rate, cover turned and sent back to Lynnfield with red Boston cds and manuscript "6" rate, Very Fine, a very unusual balloon type postmark which is the listing example in ASCC.

Manuscript postmark and unusual "8, 8, 8 cts/ 24" triple rate on the last day of the old rates (possibly to avoid confusion with new rates), on 1814 folded letter to Cambridge, Mass., written to the daughter of stateman and signer of the Declaration of Independence Elbridge Gerry; even light cover toning, F.-V.F.
