Savannah, Geo/Jul 13. Red cds on 1849 folded cover to Macon, Ga., datelined "Isle Wight" (County in Southern Virginia along the Southern coast) with matching straight line "Mail Route" & "6" in circle handstamps paying the 5¢ postage + 1¢ way fee, Very Fine and rare (A.S.C.C. $650).
Estimate    $500 - 750.

This is one of two covers recorded with this "Mail Route" marking in red. Four covers are known with the marking in black, however they all are on stamped covers or postal entires. The usage and postal meaning of this marking is (as used at Savannah) identical to the usage and meaning of "Way". See the listing and explanation of the marking on page 156 in Volume II of the A.S.C.C. This cover is the mate to that pictured in the A.S.C.C.

Red forwarding cds and matching straight line "Paid" handstamp on 1851 cover from New York, Wm Endicott & Co., lithographers sheild corner card with "New York, 10cts, Feb 1" integral rate cds and "Paid" handstamp crossed out in pen, readdressed to Havanna, Cuba with receiving postmark on reverse; trivial edge wear, Very Fine.

Uchee Village/Georgia. Bold full strike of rimless oval townmark with manuscript "July 1, 1833" date in center, on folded letter to the Govenor of Georgia in Milledgeville, manuscript "18¾" rate, Extremely Fine, a stunning example of this very rare postmark.

Blue manuscript postmark fowarding on 1843 folded letter addressed to Cherokee, Cherokee Na., Arkansas, partial red "Concord, N.H., Mar 2" origin cds and manuscript "25" rate, additional forwarded "6¼" totaling "31¼"; some light toning, otherwise Very Fine, a unique listing of the manuscript Park Hill postmark in Cherokee Nation territory. ASCC $1,650.
