Confederate Blockade Runner Fox, Nassau to Charleston 1864. The second of eight inward runs to Charleston, privately carried to Charleston where that city oval STEAM-SHIP was applied and the letter was rated "12" cents postage to Richmond (ten cents postage plus two cents ship fee), Very Fine; with 1979 C.S.A. certificate stating a "Genuine Blockade Usage".Estimate $2,000 - 3,000.
The Fox, 325 tons, was sister ship to the Lucy, purpose-built at the same Liverpool shipyard. Also contracted to Fraser, Trenholm & Co., she survived the war.

Envelope posted at Jasper, Indian on 20th July addressed to Lucern, Switzerland but underpaid 4 cents of the August 1861 treaty rate via Bremen of 19 cents. A 12 cent credit to Bremen shown by the "NEW YORK 12 BREM PK PAID / JUL /30" departure stamp. Franked with manuscript canceled 1861, 5¢ buff, three singles. Inman Line "City of New York", New York - Liverpool 12th - 22nd August 1865. Entire dated "New York 11Agusto / 65" and addressed to Cadiz, Spain Received the "NEW YORK AM PKT / AP / 12" departure stamp. Reverse bears London transit of 23rd August and Cadiz arrival of 24th where a 4 Reale (1 Cent) local delivery was charged. Prepaid 21 Cents with 1861, 1¢ blue + 10¢ green, pair which was the correct rate from 1858 for Spanish mails by American Packet via England. The "PAID-ONLY / TO ENGLAND" was incorrectly applied at London. No additional charge was however made. Atlantic transit of 10 days, Very Fine and choice.Scott No. 63+68 Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.

Envelope posted at Sweet Water, Illinois, and addressed to Frankenburg, Germany, franked with 1861, 3¢ rose single and pair, a 10 cent underpayment of the 19 cent treaty rate via Hamburg, so the "INSUFFICIENTLY PAID" stamp was applied at New York and the cover was rated 6 kreuzer due by the Hamburg office, F.-V.F.Scott No. 65 Estimate $200 - 300.

Addressed to Bad Homburg, Prepaid the 15 cent rate via Hamburg to Hessen-Kassel of October 1859. Reverse bears Unidentified 25 mm "D 5 / 11/5" stamp, a Hamburg transit of May 12th and Frankfurt arrival of May 14th.
