Special Tax Stamps, 1874-85. 35 intact documents, created under the Tax Act of 1872 and produced by the B.E.P., these large sized tax stamps measuring about 7"x14" were required for businesses such as "Dealer in Leaf Tobacco, Peddler 1st Class, Rectifier of Distilled Spirits, Wholesale Liquor Dealer, Retail Liquor Dealer, Dealer in Manufactured Tobacco", etc; each consists of 3 parts: the first featuring an exotic vignette of young girl or boy surrounded by peace pipe, barrel of tobacco; or distillery coils and bottles & casks, etc., with the year date and other information; then coupons for monthly payment, and the Stub; very attractive and suitable for framing, most in excellent condition.Estimate $150 - 200.
