Letter written by eyewitness to the explosion of a steamship just leaving port, with gory and explicit details of the horror of the dead and injured, mentions his friend was "blown to atoms" and other descriptions of arms and legs and blood everywhere, victims scalded to death, and of rescue attempts being made; newspaper article mentioned in letter not present, Fine (no photo).Estimate $200 - 300.

Curry about being short some money, couple Civil War related letters, 1861 letter from Sen. Lane about ordering a Hawkins rifle, several letters from the Hubbard correspondence, 1897 Don Juan Gold Mining letter, 1862 letter from Deschutes about repairing a boat and the writer having some "dust but no coin"; etc., interesting contents worth a close reading (no photo).Estimate $200 - 300.

Oregon Trail Letter. Datelined May 28 1849, carried by hand by a Mr. Pappan of Ft. Larime and posted at St. Joseph, Mo., postmarked Jun 23 with manuscript "5" and addressed to Kansas, Mo., to sister and wife and speaks of "scoars of the emagrants have died….theare is at this time over foar thousand wagons a head of us", etc; a few nicks but condition is remarkably good considering its itinerary.Estimate $200 - 300.

Stampless letter carried privately on the Oregon Trail, posted at Independence, Mo., Nov 18 cds, with manuscript "10", addressed to West Troy, N.Y.; contents of letter datelined as above and written by female missionary teaching at Oregon Institute, some sort of boarding school for the native population, and speaks of "converting souls" and other "Lord's work"; reasonably well preserved with some separations, F.-V.F.Estimate $500 - 750.
