Confederacy, Richmond, Va., May 3(1), 1863. blue cds (Powell type 5b) missing "1" in "31" in date stamp tying 1862, 5¢ blue, pair (four margins) on cover to Keswick Depot, Va.; cover toning & small edge repair at right, Fine, a scarce postmark in blue used for approximately two weeks in May of 1863, this day mark error described in Powell (pg. 72).

Confederacy, Richmond, Va., Nov 21, 1862. Cds (Powell type 2b) on A.H. Stephens drop rate cover with straight line "Paid 2" handstamp, interesting 1861 docketing on reverse regarding Col. W. Ector, Camp Dickinson, Kanawha River, "Enumerates the grievances of his men. Wants to be ordered from N.W. Virginia to some more agreeable climate for the winter.", expert corner repair at top left (just affecting postmark), missing bottom flap, Very Fine, a very scarce rate handstamp.

Confederacy, Richmond, Va., Sep 21, 1861. Cds (Powell type 2b) on A.H. Stephens drop rate cover with straight line "Paid 2" handstamp; docket on reverse, "Wants Mr. Stephens, to lend him $40 or buy him an army repeater", edge repairs and missing bottom flap, Very Fine appearance, a scarce drop usage.

Confederacy, Richmond, Va./Jul. 11, 1861. Cds (Powell type 6) with matching "Paid 10" in circle on cover to Mrs. Eliza Forney in Jacksonville, Ala., addressed by General William H. Forney to his wife, reduced at right, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

During the Civil War, Forney entered the Confederate States Army in 1861 as a captain in the 10th Regiment Alabama Infantry, and was successively promoted to major, lieutenant colonel, colonel, and brigadier general. He served until the surrender at Appomattox.

Confederacy, Traveler's Repose, Va., Sept 19th. Manuscript postmark with "Paid 5" rate on cover to Gilboa, Va., with original 1861 enclosure, Very Fine; A nice usage from this small town which is now in West Virginia.
