Confederacy, Chappells, S.C., 3 covers all bearing 1863 10¢ blue types I or II tied by army field cancels and addressed to members of the Peterson family in Chappells P.O. G.& C.R.R. South Carolina. All 3 covers have routing notations at lower left "Care of Peterson Package" or "Peterson Mail". Enclosed 1980 correspondence from CSA students Richard Krieger, Sam Zimmerman and J.V. Nielsen discuss this in detail and consensus was that Peterson was a mail carrier (probably stagecoach operator) who met the train and carried mail to post offices which were not on the railroad., F.-V.F., Most interesting and scarce grouping worthy of far more study.Scott No. 11+12 Estimate $500 - 750.
