Nevada Col Ter, crude dateless balloon handstamp tying 1857 3¢ dull red (defective) on 1861 cover to New York, manuscript "Sept 23" added alongside, some cover wear & staining, front mostly separated from back, however back is original, F.-V.F. and rare, illustrated in Jarrett's Colorado book.Estimate $300 - 400.
This is generally regarded as the most spectacular of all Colorado territorial postmarks. It was carved for, or possibly by, the postmaster, John J. Ratliff. The stamp would be demonetized in Colorado December 1.

According to George Linn's study of paid cancellations on the 3¢ 1861 stamp, this is the only known territorial use of such a marking.

Parkville C.T., manuscript postmark dated April 16 on 1862 patriotic cover with matching patriotic lettersheet to New York, design shows Large Eagle and Flag "Onward to Victory" design, lettersheet with shows Standing Liberty and Flag design, cover franked with manuscript cancelled 1861 3¢ rose (clipped perfs), slight reduction at right and minor soiling, Very Fine and rare, a showpiece of Colorado Territory postal history, illustrated in Jarrett's Colorado book.Estimate $750 - 1,000.
Parkville was a gold mining camp in Summit County on the south fork of the Swan River. It lasted only a few show years and eventually buried by tailings of the mine. Letter with interesting contents regarding hard winter, Civil War feelings and the famous Opera house.
