Georgetown Col. Ty, Aug 6/1866, manuscript postmark ties 1861 3¢ rose (minor perf defect) on cover to Philadelphia, handwritten return address of "The Ark, Snowy Range, Rocky Mts.", "The Ark" refers to the Arkansas River, overall Very Fine.

Georgetown C.T., Aug 6/67, manuscript postmark on buff cover to Pennsylvania franked with pen canceled 1861 3¢ rose adhesive, slightly reduced at left, Very Fine, The Georgetown post office was established in 1866, and continues to operate.

Georgetown Col T. Sep 26, black cds on 1868 cover to Alabama franked with 1861 3¢ rose (one blunt perf) cancelled by matching target cancel, docketed at left, original contents included, slightly reduced at right, Very Fine, This is the first handstamped postmark used in Georgetown.

Lot 109    

Gold Dirt Col Ty, Nov 17 1861, artistic spencerian manuscript postmark ties 1861 3¢ rose pink (couple blunt perfs) on Union Flag patriotic cover, to which the sender has added the sentiment "Oh long may it wave", address (to Wisconsin) somewhat faded, slightly reduced at right, small part of flap torn away, Very Fine and rare, illustrated in Jarrett's Colorado book.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Only manuscript postmarks are known from this important but short-lived stamping mill town. Gold Dirt was located in Gilpin County south and west of Rollinsville. In its early days, Gold Dirt produced two million dollars worth of gold.

Lot 111    

Golden City Co T. Aug 12/61, manuscript postmark on cover to New Hampshire, with a late use of the soon to be demonetized 1857 3¢ dull red, manuscript cancelled, slightly reduced at left, Very Fine and scarce, illustrated in Jarrett's Colorado book.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Golden City was one of the early Clear Creek mining camps. The post office opened April 6, 1860, while still in Kansas Territory. The name was shortened to Golden in 1876.

May 26, black cds on 1868 cover to Iowa franked with 1861 3¢ rose cancelled with duplex fancy segmented cork killer, with original contents datelined "Iron Spring", a bit irregular at right, Very Fine, An attractive cover from the well-known Littlefield correspondence, illustrated in Jarrett's Colorado book.

Lot 113    

Golden Gate, Dec. 9th, manuscript postmark on 1861 cover to Michigan franked with 1861 3¢ rose with matching manuscript cancel, included is a wonderful original enclosure which gives details of an early prize fight and a horse thief and his subsequent hanging, along with the usual economics, weather and health data, cover with slight corner wear, Very Fine, One of the most important Colorado covers.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

This small post office opened in Kansas Territory in 1860 and closed in August 1863. Only five covers are known, all from the same correspondence.

Gomers Mills, Col. Aug 26/71, manuscript postmark on 1864 3¢ Postal entire (a late use of this entire) to North Carolina, minor spotting, otherwise F.-V.F., A scarce cover from a very small town (population about 50).

Granada Col. 10/11/73, manuscript postmark on cover to New Mexico with "Commission Merchant's/A.T. and Santa Fe Railroad" corner card, franked with manuscript cancelled 3¢ Bank Note (small tear), reverse with stunning all over advertising design showing a very elaborate Street Scene with Horse Drawn Wagons, Covered Wagons & Steam Locomotive, describing them as commission and forwarding merchants for Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Chihuahua, slightly reduced at right into advertising on reverse, Extremely Fine and attractive.
