(Maryland) Baltimore, Md., red May 13, 1805 cds and "SHIP" with manuscript 12¢, plus 8¢ for forwarding letter to Patupent, Md.; side flaps missing but letter firmly attached and file fold, Fine.

(Massachusetts) 1810-60's Barnstable County covers, 20 covers; including manuscript 1852 Dennis, 1810 Barns(table), 1844 E. Falm(outh), 1841 N Falm(outh), 1848-49 So Wellflat (4), 6 Truro postmarks including 1821 manuscript, 2 different red cds's and 3 N Truro covers franked with 1861, 3¢ rose, one manuscript, 5 1840-60 Wellfleet covers with various postmarks, etc., F.-V.F., a nice Cape Cod group.

Lot 500    

(Massachusetts) Boston (British P.O.), red straight line handstamp on July 31, 1843 folded letter with mourning border from Kingston, Canada to Dublin, Ireland, written by Legislative Assembly member John Cartwright, carried on the Caledonia which departed August 1 and arrived in Liverpool August 13, reverse with "America, L" oval handstamp and red diamond arrival date stamp, manuscript "2" rate on front for double packet rate, Extremely Fine, this being one of four reported examples used from Canada, ex Arnell.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

(Massachusetts) Boston (British P.O.), red straight line handstamp on November 11, 1843 folded letter with mourning border from Kingston, Canada to Dublin, Ireland, written by Legislative Assembly member John Cartwright, carried on the Britannia which departed November 16 and arrived in Liverpool November 30, reverse with "America, L" oval handstamp and red diamond arrival date stamp, "1/-" rate handstamp on front for packet rate; small cover tear at top, Very Fine, this being one of four reported examples used from Canada.

(Massachusetts) Boston (British P.O.), clear red straight line handstamp on folded letter datelined "British Consulate, New York, July 15, 1844" to Kirby Lonsdale, England, carried by the Britannia with oval Liverpool "America, L" oval handstamp on reverse manuscript "2/" rate on front, blue arrival backstamp, Very Fine, the latest reported usage of this Boston British post office marking.

(Massachusetts) (Newburyport, Mass.) NP-, initial manuscript postmark with "4.16" (dwt., gr.) rate on February 13, 1776 folded letter to Philadelphia, rate in currency was converted at Philadelphia to the local currency equivalent "2/-" which was noted at left, Very Fine.

Lot 505    

(Minnesota) Winnebago Agency, Mar. 4th, 1860, manuscript postmark on buff cover to Illinois, franked with 1857 3¢ dull red (minor perf flaws) tied by matching manuscript cancel, Very Fine, at the time of usage H. Foster was acting as both Agent for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as well as the Postmaster, thought to be only two known.
