Steam Panama, bold type 1 oval handstamp with "San Francisco, Cal., Apr 28" cds (Williams SAF-640) and grid duplex on ca. 1872 cover to Oakland, Cal., franked with 1870 1¢ ultramarine + 3¢ green + 6¢ brown carmine canceled by grid cancels; 3¢ stamp with natural s.e. at right and cover with tiny edge tears and the slightest reduction at right slightly affecting 6¢, otherwise Very Fine, an attractive 3-color franking and the only reported on cover example of the Steam Panama marking used in conjunction with 1870 issue adhesives.

Steam Panama, clear type 1 oval handstamp and "San Francisco, Cal., May 5" cds (Williams SAF-830) on 1872 folded letter sheet to San Francisco, Cal., correct double rate of 20¢ with "20" due handstamp, letter originating from San Jose, Costa Rica with Costa Rican stamp removed at right (probably by San Francisco Postmaster) showing small portion of cancel, otherwise Very Fine, a very scarce usage from Costa Rica.
