Executive Dept., 1873, 1¢ carmine. Tied by "Washington, D.C., May 28" cds and cork duplexes on 1877 Executive Mansion corner card cover to noted poet and women's literary editor and writer Sarah J. Hale in Philadelphia, Pa., docketed in pencil "1877 President R.B. Hayes" at right and addressed personally by President Rutherford B. Hayes, receiving backstamp; cover slightly reduced at left, Very Fine, a rare usage between two notable famous Americans; with 2004 P.S.E. certificate.

Aug. 8, 1882" cds on cover to Jersey City N.J., forwarded to Colchester Conn., also bearing Jersey City cds, cover with violet printed return address of the "U.S. Navy Pay Office, Philadelphia", cover opened bit unevenly at top, fresh and Fine.

VERY FINE. THESE ARE THE ONLY TWO EXAMPLES OF THE "POST OFFICE, OFFICIALLY SEALED, LOS ANGELES" LABELS, SCOTT LOX30. A REMARKABLE 20TH CENTURY COVER.

The Scott Catalogue listing is based on this cover, describing the two seals as "unique", but obviously referring to the cover itself, as no other examples are recorded.
