1861, 24¢ steel blue. Vertical pair, each cancelled by neat grid cancel on 1862 cover to London, England, postmarked bold "Marblehead Mass. May 20, 1862" double-circle datestamp, cover has been decorated and sealed by selvage from a sheet of Great Britain 1p Red, Boston and London transits tie, selvage additionally used on backflaps, horizontal file fold passes between stamps but does not crease or separate them, bottom stamp with small corner crease ending in margin tear, Very Fine, extremely rare and unusual use of a Steel Blue pair; with 2001 P.F. certificate.

1861, 24¢ steel blue. Rich color, tied by bold "Marblehead Mass. May 6" circular datestamp on unusual 1862 cover to London, England, sides of cover decorated and sealed by selvage from a sheet of the Great Britain 1p Red, selvage "tied" at top by boldly struck "Boston Br. Pkt. 19 Paid May 6" exchange circular datestamp, "Paid" handstamp, stamp with tiny perf tears at top, otherwise Very Fine, a striking cover and an attractive use of the 24¢ Steel Blue, ex-Sevenoaks, with 2001 P.F. certificate.

1861, 24¢ steel blue. Two singles, deep rich color in the true Steel Blue shade, unusually choice centering, tied by grids on cover to Manchester, England with red "N. York Br. Pkt. 38 Dec. 24" credit datestamp at left, 1862 receiving backstamp, endorsed "Per Steamer Europa", sealed opening tear at top, otherwise Very Fine, scarce usage of the 24¢ Steel Blue.

1861, 24¢ violet. Tied in combination with 30¢ orange + 1861-66 2¢ black by blue "Cincinnati O. Oct. 18" duplex cancels on yellow cover to Usingen, Germany, endorsed "Via Prussian Closed Mail", red "N. York Br. Pkt. 14 Paid Oct. 22" credit datestamp, magenta "Aachen Franco" transit handstamp, most of top backflap removed and small repair at top, 24¢ & 30¢ small tear, otherwise Very Fine, rare use of 24¢ "Cincinnati Violet" on cover with Black Jack to a foreign destination; with 2003 P.F. certificate.

Pkt. 40 Aug. 9" credit datestamp, endorsed "Via Marseilles", London transit and receiving backstamp, minor edgewear affects 10¢ stamp, otherwise Very Fine, an attractive usage to this rare destination.

Manuscript canceled on 1866 legal size cover paying the triple 21¢ French packet rate to St. Gallen, Switzerland, manuscript "Arenzville, Ill., June 21/ 66" origin postmark at lower left, red New York and French transit cds's, magenta manuscript "54" credit and 3¢ additionally tied by rare "F/ 30" boxed accountancy handstamp; some cover soiling and 3¢ with defect at upper left, Fine, a rare triple rate usage to Switzerland.

Horizontal pair, tied by negative 4-Point Star cancels on blue 1864 folded cover to Lyon, France with red "New York Paid 24 Sep. 10" credit cds at left, markings include red boxed "P.D." handstamp, various transits, horizontal file fold well clear of stamps, stamps with light wrinkling, Very Fine, scarce quadruple-rate usage, from the Payen correspondence.

May 6" circular datestamp, red N.Y. transit, several transit and receiving backstamps, some minor wear, still Very Fine, triple-rate 30¢ 1861 covers to Germany are extremely rare.
