An interesting group of 16 stampless Trans-Atlantic covers from Montevideo to Great Britain, included are two folded letters with early "Montevideo" straight line handstamp in red (one "Montvo" & one "Montev"), eight folded letter with no Uruguay markings, however 7 of the 8 with Ship Letter marking, six folded letters with oval postmarks of Montevideo including one in red, F.-V.F., worth inspection. Franked with Great Britain 1d tied in transit by London numeral "18" barred oval to Gosport, Hampshire, cover endorsed "From James Corben on board HMS Bombay, Montevideo" and counter signed by Commanding Officer, flap torn, Very Fine, a very rare usage.
