San Francisco, Cal., Mar 16 (San Francisco). Cds on oversized cover to Stockholm, Sweden, matching "Paid" handstamp and manuscript "168" in pencil at top for four times the 42¢ Prussian closed mail rate, conveyed via Panama and arrived at New York April 7th by steamship Illinois, reverse with "New York, Am. Packet, Apr 9" transit cds, various Prussian transit and rate markings; cover soiling and repair at lower left, otherwise F.-V.F., a rare multiple rate cover to Sweden.

Well formed collection of approximately 180 covers and cards in large quarter leather album, almost every postmark represented for the period including RPO's and RFD's, picture postcards, interesting enclosures, etc., with large rimless postmark (SBA-1370) on cover to Forbestown with #25 franking, early 1850's incoming from Boston, late 1850's usages including overland, 1860 usages including "Advertised" and 1870's with "Held for Postage" auxiliary handstamp, registered, advertising corner cards with Morris House including printed enclosure, express covers including many nice Wells, Fargo & Co usages, Pacific Union incoming, Columbian mixed frankings on registered covers, Spanish American war including patriotic, unlisted 1906 General Delivery postmark, etc., condition above average with clear well struck postmarks the rule.

Comprehensive collection of well over 200 covers and cards in large quarter leather album (no Santa Barbara), from early cds's, to scarce RPO.'s and RFD's of the 1910's, most scarce towns and postmarks represented including Alcatraz Landing, various Ballard, Buell, Carpenteria, two very scarce Childs postmarks, Foxen, various Goleta, strong section of Guadaloupe including the scarce #SBA-680 (recorded use less than a year), Lompoc, Los Alamos, earliest recorded Los Olivos postmark, San Buenaventura manuscript postmarks including 1866 enclosure from James de Barth, very scarce Santa Ines postmark, range of Santa Maria postmarks, Sis Quoc, etc.; condition above average with clear well struck postmarks the rule.
