Hotel corner card cover addressed to soldier at Alcatraz Island, San Francisco, franked with 1867 3¢ rose, F. grill tied by "Cleveland, O., Aug 15" cds and cork duplex, addressed crossed out and manuscript "Kodiak, Alaska Territory, Russia America" forwarding, "San Francisco, Cal, Aug 22" cds at top, with original enclosure docketed "i receift this letter on the 8th day of April 1869 at Fort Kodiak, Alaska Ter", cover with slightly rough reduction at left, Fine, a very rare and early usage to Kodiak, Alaska and the only known letter addressed to Russia America.

Maj. Gen. Halleck, in command of the military pacific division, sent the CY G 2nd U.S. Artillery unit to establish Fort Kodiak in 1868. The fort was abandoned in 1870.

Fairly clear strike of purple postmark on cover to Pennsylvania, franked with 1883 2¢ red brown canceled by matching target, with 8-page enclosure on multicolored vessel illustrated letterhead, with salacious content regarding relations with squaw, quartz mines and steamers, cover and stamp edge faults, otherwise Very Fine.
