Confederacy, 1861, 5¢ light green, Stone 1, ample to large margins, tied by light "Goldsborough, N.C., Mar 16" cds on cover to Smithfield, N.C., with original 1862 enclosure regarding the devastation in Goldsboro…Doubtless you have heard of the dreadful fate of our town. Most of our women and children are here homeless wanderers. I cannot attempt to describe how very miserable we are. Both my brothers are probably killed, as we have hear nothing from them., Very Fine.
