"Sixth Regiment Mass. Volunteer Militia", red and blue design showing Luther C. Ladd portrait and flag, on cover to New York, 1861, 3¢ rose (65) tied by partial Washington D.C. cds, light soiling and corner repair at bottom right, F.-V.F., a very rare design, ex-Bischel. Bischel No. 2345.

Luther Crawford Ladd was a soldier in the Union Army who was killed during the Baltimore riot of 1861. He is often referred to as the first Union soldier killed in action during the American Civil War and was only 17 years old at the time of his death.
