In early 1861 designed CSA Battle Flag, W.P. Miles served as Mayor of Charleston 1855-57, elected to 35th-36th Congress's until retirement in 1860, later served as Confederate Provisional Congress, member of the Confederate Congress from 1862-64, Colonel on the staff of Gen. Beauregard, President of Unv. of S.C. at Columbia, died May 11, 1899.

Witherspoon, Wateree Mounted Rifles, Capt. Boykins Co." and addressed to Miss Ellen R. Tweed, Camden, So. Ca., minor corner wear, still Very Fine.Estimate $150 - 200.
The Wateree Mounted Rifles were later incorporated into the 7th South Carolina Cavalry (March 1864). They surrendered with Major E. M. Boykin at Appomattox Court House.
