Fort Towson in Choctaw Nation was named for General Towson who was Paymaster General from early 1840's to 1854.

Fort Smith, Ark, Jun 7, cds on 1848 cover to street address in New Orleans, La., with manuscript "10" plus "2/12" total rate for the 10¢ single domestic rate plus 2¢ New Orleans carrier fee, with lengthy original enclosure with interesting content regarding Fort Smith including…I will try to describe how Fort Smith is situated. It is on the left bank of the Arkansas, separated by that river from the Cherokee Nation, and just at the line of the Choctaw Nation, the town is separated from the Garrison merely by a fence and stone wall., Very Fine, a rare Arkansas usage noting the 2¢ carrier fee in another state.Estimate $150 - 200.

Kidron, March 30 (Cherokee Nation), manuscript postmark with matching "5" rating on 1847 folded letter to Van Buren, Ark., letter dateline "Illinois Court House, March 29, 1847" with interesting content…I have just returned this day from Talhequah…I wish to consult you on would it be better to sell these Negroes for Warrants on the Nation (Indian Nation). I believe they would realise more in that way than any other way they could be disposed of for the reason that they are very unsaleable property in any Country, Very Fine, a very scarce Cherokee Nation postmark.Estimate $200 - 300.
The Illinois Courthouse location is unclear but some documents list it as being at or near Fort Gibson.
