British Queen (Atlantic Ocean), printed woodcut illustration of the British Queen with caption on a small piece of paper affixed by sender to printed Prices Current with letter addressed to New York with ship-name directive "B Q" at bottom left, printed datelined reads, "Per British Queen" & "Liverpool, 2th October 1839", large manuscript "6" ship-rate due marking applied at New York ties the illustrated cut-out, proving it was affixed by the sender to decorate the address panel, Very Fine and quite unusual.

AN OUTSTANDING ITEM FOR THE SPECIALIST, OF WHICH ONLY TWO COVERS ARE RECORDED.

The "British Queen" was owned by the British and American Steam Navigation Co. The "British Queen" was substantially larger than other transatlantic steamers used at the time, earning the company a profit. She was later sold to the Belgian government after the finance collapse of the firm in 1841.

PR. Caledonia (Atlantic Ocean), red straight-line handstamp on 1846 folded letter to London, red forwarder's oval "Ford By T.W. Ward Boston" handstamp, manuscript transatlantic rate, couple vertical file folds, slightly impacting both handstamps, otherwise Very Fine, a nice use of Ward name-of-ship handstamped directive, Illustrated in Milgram.

Sep 2" cds & manuscript "25" rate to forwarder (Goodhue & Co.) in New York for transmission to London, backstamped with red oval Goodhue forwarder marking and sent to Boston forwarder, T.W. Ward with red handstamp applied and matching Pr. Caledonia straight line, backstamped red arrival cds, light file folds, Very Fine and attractive double forwarder usage with this steamship directive.
