Vicksburg & Yazoo City U.S. Mail Packet, S.S. Prentiss (Mississippi River), attractive packet corner card on buff cover to Portsmouth, Ohio, postmarked "Vicksburg, Miss. Jul 22" cds "5" in circle rate handstamp at bottom left, included is original enclosure datelined "Yazoo City, July 21, 1854", additional includes printed freight bill which includes "Passage for 5 Runaways", Very Fine, the only recorded example of this packet corner card, Illustrated in Milgram.

Red River Passenger Packet Starlight (Red River), red double oval on 1853-55 3¢ Nesbitt entire to New Orleans, second strike on reverse, usual pinholes as found on the Carroll Hoy correspondence, also included is Confederate 1862 printed freight bill, Very Fine.

The "Starlight" of 280 tons built at Jeffersonville, Indiana in 1858 for Capt. Charles Hayes for use on the New Orleans to Shreveport trade.

Star Spangled Banner (Ohio & Mississippi Rivers), fancy arced stencil Steamboat marking on large size folded cover dateline "Steamer Modern near Vicksburg, 28 February 1847" to Lynchburg, Virginia, postmarked "New Orleans, La. Mar. 4" cds with matching straightline "Steam" handstamp and manuscript "30" rate paying the triple rate, endorsed "Via Richd, Va.", light overall aging, Extremely Fine, Illustrated in Milgram.

ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF THIS RARE STENCIL MARKING WITH ONLY FOUR RECORDED.

The "Star Spangled Banner" operated between New Orleans and Cincinnati before tragically sinking on June 29, 1847, approximately 15 miles below Baton Rouge, resulting in the loss of 125 lives.
