P.N. Banta May 22, 1861 (Lake Champlain), red handstamp on cover to Syracuse, N.Y., franked with 1857 3¢ Dull Red (26), tied by indistinct cds, stamp and cover flaws, Fine, the only recorded example of this marking.

Lot 773    

Portland Steam Packet Company (Atlantic Coast), intricate and illustrated corner card showing fast steamship "between Portland and Boston" on lemon cover, franked with 2¢ vermilion Bank Note tied by "Portland, Me. Jan 1" cds and segmented cork cancel, slightly reduced at right, Very Fine and attractive, this is the only recorded example, unlisted in Milgram.

Lot 775    

St. Louis & Miami Packet Steamer Post Boy (Missouri River), all overprinted design in blue & buff show detailed illustration of the Post Boy on cover to Columbia, Mo., franked with 1861 3¢ Rose (65, defective) tied by cross road cancel with matching St. Louis, Mo. double circle postmark alongside, ragged left edge from rough opening impacting design, Fine and rare, ex-Somdal, Illustrated in Klein & Milgram.
Milgram No. 1136    Estimate $500 - 750.

This illustrated "Post Boy" steamer operating out of St. Louis on the Missouri River from 1859-1863, was a different vessel than the Milgram 1134-1135 vessel which operated on the Mississippi River.

Steamer Prairie State (Alabama River), bold blue straight line handstamp, stamped vertically at right on 1864-65 3¢ entire to Mobile, Ala., postmarked "Mobile, Ala. Nov 16" cds, reduced at left, light edge wear and tear at upper left, Fine appearance.

Regular Saturday Night Packet Steamer Prairie State (Alabama River), ornate red oval corner card on 1864-65 3¢ entire to Harrisonburg, Va., postmarked "Demopolis, Ala. Aug 5" cds and target cancels, also included is an 1872 multicolored printed freight bill with elaborate illustration of steamboat, Very Fine and choice, ex-Somdal, Illustrated in Milgram.

Princess (Mississippi River), bold and complete blue straight line handstamp on 1853-55 3¢ Nesbitt entire to New Orleans, postmarked matching New Orleans & Vicksburg R.M. (River Mail) route agent cds, small professional restoration at top (not affecting markings), also included is 1859 printed freight bill, Extremely Fine appearance, ex-Somdal.
