Steamer New World (Mississippi River), bold and complete blue oval handstamp on cover to New Orleans, franked with 1851 3¢ Dull Red (11A, tiny tear) tied by straightline "Steam" with indistinct red New Orleans cds, Very Fine and rare, this is the only recorded example of this packet marking, ex-Somdal, Illustrated in Milgram.

Louisville and Henderson Packet Nightingale (Ohio River), printed corner card on cover to Brandenburg, Ky, franked with 1869 3¢ Pictorial (114, straight edge at right & few blunt perfs at top) with centrally struck target with matching "Garnettsville, KY Sep 29" cds, part of reverse torn away ending in small edge tear at top & bottom left, Very Fine appearance, this is the only recorded example, Illustrated in Milgram.

Packet Nina Simmes (Mississippi, Atchafalaya & Opelousas Rivers), large red circular handstamp with illustration at center on 3¢ Star Die (U26) entire to Washington La.; docketed "Nina Simmes" at lower left, tiny corner repair at bottom left, also included is Confederate States of America freight bill dated "April 25, 1861", ex-Somdal, Antoine & Feldman, Illustrated in Milgram.

THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THIS ILLUSTRATED HANDSTAMP.

In July 1858 a route connecting Donaldsonville via the Lefourche River, Attakapas Canal, Atchafalaya River and the Teche River with Washington was contracted to James B. Price at $11,739 per annum for three times a week service. Although the cover shown below is about 3 years later than the route, it is one of very few identifiable as traveling over the course of the route.
