Steamer Katahdin Sept. 21, 1866 (New England Coast), blue irregular cds ties 1861 3¢ rose (some blunt perfs) on cover to Hampden, Maine, cover with corner card for Dealer in Potatoes, cover some staining, also included is printed freight bill with similar steamboat marking dated "Dec. 21, 1866", F.-V.F., a rare example of the steamboat marking tying the adhesive.

Kate Cassel (Upper Mississippi River), complete straightline handstamp on 1853-55 3¢ Nesbitt entire to Hastings, Minnesota Territory, some light wear, Very Fine, ex-Risvold, illustrated in Risvold and Milgram books.

USED DURING THE BRIEF TIME THE VESSEL OPERATED ON THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI, THE ONLY REPORTED EXAMPLE.

Posted to the purser of the "Kate Cassel" and dropped off at Hastings on the way down from St. Paul. The "Kate Cassel" was a stern-wheeler of 164 tons built at California, Pa. in 1854. The boat was abandoned in 1864.
