Steamboat Grey Eagle, Dec 8 1865 (Mississippi River), steamship double circle handstamp on cover to "Island No.98 near Vicksburg, Miss.", franked with 1861 3¢ Rose (65, couple perf faults) tied by 2nd strike of steamboat marking, cover with neat tear in address (sealed with archival tape), also included is 1867 printed freight bill head, F.-V.F. appearance.

Steamer Grey Eagle (Mississippi River), oval handstamp on 1864-65 3¢ entire to New Orleans, usual pinholes typical of Hoy correspondence, small corner repair upper right, also included is two printed freight bills, one in green, F.-V.F., ex-Somdal.

U.S. Mail Packet Grey Eagle (Ohio River), blue corner card on 1883 cover to Stewartstown Pa., franked with 3¢ Banknote tied by segmented cork cancel with "Louis. & Evans(ville) Agt." Steamboat Mail Agent cds (slightly strengthened), slightly reduced at right, F.-V.F.

New Orleans & Bayou Sara Freight Packet Grosse Tete (Mississippi River), bold and complete red oval handstamp on 1853-55 3¢ Nesbitt entire to New Orleans, postmarked "New Orleans, La. Sep. 17, 1858" double circle with complete "Steamboat" straightline, part of flap torn off, Very Fine and choice.
Milgram No. 571    Estimate $400 - 600.

Built in 1858 in Indiana, the vessel was used in commercial trade until 1860, when she was purchased by the Bayou Sara Mail Company for mail delivery until 1861, when she was acquired by the Confederate Navy.

Crooked Lake Steamer G R Young, shield type steamer handstamp with "Sep 5 1863" date stamp on cover to Sandusky, Ohio, franked with 1861 3¢ Rose (65, couple blunt perfs) tied by target and "Penn Van, NY Sep 5" double circle postmark, Very Fine, this is the unique example of this steamboat marking which is unlisted in Milgram.
Milgram No. 571A    Estimate $400 - 600.

The steamer ran "Crooked Lake" from Penn Van at the foot of lake to Hammondsport at head of lake with daily runs.

The Crooked Lake Canal was a canal in western New York. Built from 1830-1833, the canal linked two Finger Lakes: Keuka and Seneca lakes. The name refers to the unusual shape of Keuka Lake, which was formerly called "Crooked Lake".

Feb. 26, 1883" duplex, included is original matching letterhead in black, red and gold, cover with hint of soiling, still Very Fine.

Regular Cincinnati and New Orleans, Electric-Light Steamer, Guiding Star, beautifully illustrated corner card and printed in red & blue on 1885 cover to Elmira, N.Y., with original matching illustrated lettersheet in gold, blue and red, datelined "Evansville Jan. 24, 1885", franked with 2¢ Bank Note and tied by indistinct cds, slightly reduced at left affecting design, still Very Fine, a lovely pair, Unlisted in Milgram.
