Niagara, beautifully illustrated lettersheet of the Steamer Niagara, datelined "Chicago, Aug. 3, '46", letter includes, We arrived here last night about 12 O'clock after a very pleasant passage., Very Fine, one of only two recorded.

Nile, 1846 folded letter with beautifully illustrated design of the Steamer Nile, postmarked blue "Detroit, Mich." cds with matching "10" oval rate handstamp, letter written on board, P.S. The boat trembles so I can hardly write., Very Fine and rare, the only recorded example.

Lot 13    

Northern Light, beautifully illustrated folded lettersheet of the Steamer Northern Light, with printed datelined "Cleveland, Ohio" and manuscript "April 15, 1859" with lengthy letter, also included is unused cover with lovely all-over of same design, Very Fine and rare.

Oregon, folded letter with beautifully illustrated design of the Steamer Oregon, datelined "Chicago Aug. 4, 1845" to Albany, postmarked red "Chicago, Ill. Aug. 5" cds with matching "10" in serrated oval rate handstamp, fascinating lengthy letter written on board the Oregon, "Here I am after all my perilous voyaging by land & water, safely seated in the cabin of the above-named steamer", Very Fine and rare, the only recorded example.

Oregon, folded letter with lovely illustrated design of the Steamer Oregon, datelined "Lake Erie June 17, 1846", postmarked blue "Buffalo, N.Y. Jun 17" oval with manuscript "10" rate, couple vert. file folds affecting address panel, Very Fine and rare, one of only two recorded examples.

Pittsburg, folded letter with beautifully illustrated design of the Pittsburg with three Steamboats in the foreground, printed dateline "Pittsburg with manuscript date "May the 7, 1850", unaddressed, some toning, F.-V.F., still a lovely and rare lettersheet.

Superior, folded letter with lovely illustrated design of the Steamer Superior, datelined "S.B. Superior Milwaukie July 14" (1847) to Bloomingdale, Ill., excellent lengthy hand carried letter, Very Fine and rare, the only recorded example.

Lot 19

Phoenix & Congress, Lake Champlain Steam-Boats, printed broadside on linen (7 x 11¾) in frame, of the Lake Champlain Steam-Boat Company, lists prices for Passage & Freight, dated at bottom, Vergennes, April 20, 1821, two small holes at bottom right, but in remarkable condition for its age, Very Fine and very rare.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Lot 20

The Low Pressure Steamboat Swallow, printed broadside (9½ x 11¼) in frame, lovely illustrated design of the Swallow from New York to Albany & Troy with sailing time & fare $1 (Deck Passage 50¢), cira 1837, some minor staining.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

The Swallow was built in New York City and began running nighttime passage between New York City and Albany in 1836. It had a wooden hull nearly 100 yards long and weighed 426 tons. She was later lost in one of the most infamous river disasters in 1845.
