AN UNMATCHED 3¢ 1869 PICTORIAL WITH NEAR PERFECT CENTERING AND A VIVID RED CANCEL.
Although the 3¢ 1869 stamp is widely regarded as the most common denomination of the series, it is exceedingly rare to find used specimens in the highest grades featuring colored cancels. Additionally, we are of somewhat at a loss as to why this stamp did not receive the "Jumbo" designation by the P.S.E., as it certainly seems to qualify.
This magnificent example brought a hammer price of $3,250 in the 2020 sale of the Edward Morton collection.
