1856, 5¢ red brown, Horizontal Pair, perfect strike of Yankee Jims, Cal. town cancel, full to large margins, strong vivid color, right stamp faint vertical crease (visible only in fluid), Extremely Fine appearance, ex-Waterhouse, Newbury, Mayer, "Golden Oak" and Eubanks; with clear 2021 P.F. certificate (issued after the Eubanks sale).

This is the unique example of the 5¢ 1856 Issue bearing the Yankee Jim's town cancellation. It's noteworthy that examples used from post offices other than those in New Orleans or New York are already scarce, and this particular pair originating from the West Coast is exceptionally rare.

1856, 5¢ red brown, horizontal strip of 3, ample to mostly large margins, rich color and crisp impressions on fresh bright paper, two strikes of Wilmington, Del. town cancel, Extremely Fine and attractive, ex-Emerson, Saadi and Eubanks; with 1983 (photocopy), 1990 & 2021 P.F. certificates.

AN OUTSTANDING AND EXCEPTIONALLY CHOICE STRIP OF THE 1856 5¢ RED BROWN IMPERFORATE ISSUE.

The vast majority of this issue was used in New Orleans for correspondence to France. The choice sound condition of this strip is the exception as most strip are defective.
