1863, 24¢ lilac, in combination with 1861, 3¢ rose (65) on cover to Courtray, Belgium, canceled by grid handstamps with matching "Santa Clara, Cal., Oct 10" origin cds, manuscript "Closed Mail Via England" endorsement at top, red "New York, Paid 12, Nov 5" exchange cds tying 24¢, reverse with French transit and receiving cds's, scarce usage paying the 27¢ rate via Belgian Closed Mail; with 2003 J. Van der Linden certificate.

1863, 24¢ gray, s.e. at right, in combination with 1861, 1¢ blue (63) on 1864, 3¢ entire to Dresden, Germany originating in San Francisco, all tied by circle of wedges cancels, Wells, Fargo & Co. black printed frank at top, red "N. York Am. Pkt., 7 Paid" exchange cds and blue Wells, Fargo & Co. "Paid Through" straight line handstamp at left, transit date stamp on reverse, Very Fine.

1867, 2¢ black, F. grill, diagonal bisect, used as 1¢ as part of 3¢ rate, upper right portion of stamp, in combination with 1869, 2¢ brown (113) on cover to Philadelphia, Pa., tied by target handstamp with indistinct cds alongside; 3¢ with rounded corner at upper right, Very Fine; with 1979 P.F. certificate.

1867, 12¢ black, F. grill, horizontal pair, well centered, couple short perfs, tied by fancy radial cancels and magenta "San Francisco Cal. 'Paid' Apr 9" exchange cds, endorsed "pr. Steamer via Panama" at top, left, San Francisco "Too Late" oval handstamp, carried by NGL Line Main from New York Apr. 22nd to Southampton arriving May 5th, red London (5.6.69) arrival cds; edge wear, F.-V.F., ex-Gliedman.
Scott No. 97    Estimate $200 - 300.

The San Francisco "Too Late" oval was applied indicating cover arrived late for a recently departed steamer. Likely routed overland (12-15 day transit) as a result to make the NGL Line "Main" departing New York on April 22nd.

Transit, Feb 1" exchange cds, carried by Hapag Line Allemania from New York Feb. 1st to Plymouth arriving Feb. 15th, reverse with Basel (2.17) and Geneva (2.18) arrival cds, Very Fine.
