Ship Curacoa, Rio de Janeiro" at top and countersigned by the Commanding Officer below, franked with G.B. 1841, 1¢ red canceled and tied by Maltese cross on arrival in Halifax, with "2" rate handstamp and reverse with red London entry (9.10) and receiving date stamp (10.10), letter with interesting contents including…I have put a stamp on the letter and if you have and more to pay you must let me know…some of our chaps tell me they won't do and they always stitch a penny in one corner; slight soiling and 1d with some edge nicks, F.-V.F., a fascinating cover giving first hand account of the problems encountered with the sailor's concessionary rate; signed Holcombe & Calves.Estimate $500 - 750.
