A WONDERFULLY CHOICE EXAMPLE OF THE 1861 3¢ SCARLET TRIAL PRINT AND CERTAINLY THE FINEST EXAMPLE WE HAVE EVER OFFERED AT AUCTION.

The Washington D.C. stamp dealer Carl F. Rothfuchs obtained a quantity of these stamps in 1893 and sold them bearing the four horizontal pen marks.
