Confederacy, Castle Morgan, Cahaba Ala. (Earliest Known Use), inner envelope to Fall River, Mass. franked with USA 3¢ rose (65) tied by segmented cork cancel with two strike of "Old Point Comfort, Va. Jan. 20" (1864) double circle postmark, manuscript "By Flag of Truce" endorsement at top and backstamped "Fall River, Mass Jan 23, 1864" receiver, extremely attractive manuscript endorsement on reverse "Examined & Approved H.A.M. Henderson, Assistant Commissioner of Exchange", light vertical cover fold, Very Fine and attractive, only 11 known, 4 of the five with covers with stamps are with the stamps upside down, possibly meaning distress.
Scott No. 65    Estimate $500 - 750.

Cover written by Henry H. Heald, Captain of merchant vessel "Norman" which was captured off the coast of Florida, addressed to his wife in Fall River.

Confederacy, Castle Morgan, Cahaba, Ala., two covers, with original letters from the correspondence of Cpl. Watson Anderson, 102nd Ohio Inf. to wife/family member in Ashland, O., 1st cover with manuscript "Prisoners Letter" and postmarked "New Orleans, La. Jan. 21" (1865) cds with "3" rate handstamp; 2nd cover with manuscript "Prisoners Letter" and postmark "Vicksburg, Miss. Feb. 21, 1865" double circle, additional manuscript Censor's "Approved H.A.M. Henderson, Capt. & Asst. Agent of Exchange CSA" (Cahaba Commander Capt. Howard Andrew Millett Henderson) on backflap, letters datelined "Military Prison, Cahaba, Ala." and "Federal Prison, Cahaba, Ala." respectively, full of interesting contents, typical and usual small cover flaws, Very Fine.

Confederacy, Camp Oglethorpe for Officers, Macon Ga., cover addressed to Lt. J.S. Follett, Battery G, 1st Mo. light. Art., St. Louis, Mo. and postmarked "Old Point Comfort, Va. Jul 18" (1864) double circle with matching "Due 6" in circle, manuscript censor's endorsement "Examined WKT" (W. Kemp Tabb), included is original enclosure datelined "Military Prison, Macon Ga. May 18th, 1864" (Camp Oglethorpe) from Capt. Henry Hescock, 1st Mo. Light Artillery stating "you can see by the above that I am in Macon, we started from Richmond on the 7th and arrived here yesterday after a very unpleasant trip, our situation here is much more pleasant than at the Libby", edge wrinkling, F.-V.F. and rare.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

The cover is censored by Capt. W. Kemp Tabb the day he took command of Camp Oglethorpe.

Confederacy, Camp Oglethorpe for Officers, Macon Ga., inner cover franked with 1861 3¢ Rose (65) tied by fancy segmented cork cancel and postmarked "Old Point Comfort, Va. Jun. 16" (1864) double circle no censor markings, included is original enclosure datelined "Military Prison, Macon Ga. Oct. 26th, 1864" (Camp Oglethorpe) from Capt. Varnum Hill to his father in Manchester N.H., stating "please see the Hon. David Clark and he will use his influence in getting a special exchange for me…so far as my health continues good…to be sent to Columbia S.C. this P.M.", Very Fine.
Scott No. 65    Estimate $300 - 400.

This is the latest know usage from this prison. The "JUN 16" in the Old Point Comfort postmark appears deliberate. The "JUN" for "JAN" was used Jan. 16-19, 1865.
