British Offices in Cyprus, 1880 Paphos to Edinburgh, Scotland, cover (regimental crest on flap) franked with G.B. 1876, 2½d rosy mauve tied by barred oval 981 handstamp with "Papho, Cyprus, Feb 8, 80" cds alongside, reverse with Limassol, Larnaca and Edinburgh (19.2) cds's overlapping; accompanied by an earlier letter for correspondence; cover with vertical tone band, Very Fine; with 1994 G.B.P.E. certificate. British Offices in the Danish West Indies, 1812 St. Croix to Ireland, folded letter rated "2/6" crossed out and rerated "3/1", with truly exceptional strike of the very rare "St. Croix, No. 27, 1812" fleuron date stamp, indistinct arrival postmark on reverse, Extremely Fine and choice.
Estimate    $5,000 - 7,500.

WITHOUT QUESTION - ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF THIS RARE EARLY BRITISH ST. CROIX FLEURON DATE STAMP.

The British invaded the Danish West Indies in December 1807. A British fleet captured St. Thomas on December 22nd and St. Croix on December 25th. Denmark-Norway did not resist and this occupation lasted until November 20, 1815.
