Confederacy, 1861, 5¢ green, margins large to just touching at top right, deep bold color, tied by clear "Charleston, S.C., Feb 15, 1862" cds on intricate floral embossed Valentine cover military addressed in Church Flats, S.C., with original enamel embossed Valentine enclosure with central Cupid in heart design, erroneously docketed "1861" at center; cover with edge wear and some sealed tears, F.-V.F., ex-Brandon.

Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ blue, Archer & Daly printing, horizontal pair, tied by partial "Richmond Va., Feb 25, 1863" cds (left stamp tied by black pen stroke) on embossed ladies envelope to Centre, Ala., F.-V.F.

Includes an Ashbrook typed note speculating that this envelope contained a Valentine from a soldier in "the Lines" around Richmond, who got the envelope from a local sutler, then had to delay before getting into Richmond to mail it.

Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ blue, Archer & Daly printing, horizontal pair, tied by "Charleston S.C., Feb 19" cds on small cover to Augusta Ga.; includes large (10x14") hand colored penny dreadful comic Valentine "Dry Good Dummy" by artist C.J. Howard with quite an unflattering verse; cover with small stain at lower right, Valentine had to be folded many times to fit into the small envelope and has multiple repaired splits, Fine, ex-Haas.

Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ blue, clear to huge margins, tied by open 7-bar circular field grid handstamp on cover to Wolf Trap, Va., with "via Richmond" routing endorsement at top, with original Valentine enclosure with handwritten verse and hand painted Bow & Ammunition Shell with Floral Embellishment; some toning and staining to enclosure, Fine, a rare Confederate Valentine from the field with battle implications.

Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ blue, light gum tone, tied by bold blue "Emory, Va., Feb 13" cds on small somewhat reduced homemade cover to Carter's Depot, Tenn., with matching homemade Valentine enclosure with multicolored enamel lattice floral bolder and hand written four line poem dated "Feb 14, 1864"; some cover stains which match the reverse of the enclosure, F.-V.F., and very rare, ex-Antrim and Nunnelley.
