1903, 2¢ carmine, type I, booklet pane of 6, with round marker, position B, showing portion of round ball marker just to the right of guide arrow, o.g., hinge remnants, rich vibrant color, wide margins and stamp designs all well away from perfs, Very Fine and choice, ex-Joyce & Brody.

AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1903 2¢ WASHINGTON SHIELD BOOKLET PANE WITH ROUND BALL MARKER - WITH ONLY ELEVEN EXAMPLES RECORDED.

It is believed that this ball shaped marking is the result of an indentation made during a plate hardening test done with a Brinnell Hardness Tester.
