A RARE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 10¢ RED OVERPRINT ERROR. ONLY ONE SHEET OF FIFTY WAS ISSUED.
Accompanied by a photocopy of a 1904 letter from J. H. Makins, a San Francisco stamp dealer, to collector Percy T. Morgan in regards to Morgan's purchase the overprint errors and relaying Makins' understanding of their origin. Also included a photocopy of an affidavit on Makins & Co. letterhead from Postmaster Oat certifying that he procured the only sheet of the 6¢ error ever produced.
It is believed that eight examples were destroyed from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and that less than forty examples are in existence.
