Hawaii, 1882, King Kamehameha V, 5¢ ultramarine, three singles, in combination with 1883, 1¢ green + 1891, 2¢ dull violet, horizontal pair (42, 52) on registered cover to San Francisco, Cal., tied by target handstamps with red Honolulu registry handstamp, reverse with various receiving date stamps and purple H. Lose corner card handstamp; couple light cover tone spots, otherwise Very Fine, an unusual usage not bearing a Honolulu origin postmark.

Hawaii, 1883, Queen Emma, $1 rose red, right margin block of 4 partial embossing in selvage of the seal of Postmaster General, original gum (couple toned spots), few minor perf separations sensibly reinforced and some oxidization, Fine and a scarce multiple.

Hawaii, 1883, Queen Emma, $1 rose red, 5 singles, each showing the different types of Opium Duty cancels; including small Maltese cross, large Maltese in purple not joined and joined, "A. S. Cleghorn" signature and "J.M.K." initials; some with usual minor soiling and one with small corner crease, a Very Fine and choice set, far better than normally encountered.
Scott Nos. 49    Estimate $750 - 1,000.

Cleghorn was the Postmaster General from May 1, 1887 to April 15, 1893 and was married to Princess Likelike. These stamps often show some staining caused by opium which leaked from the tin containers.
