Lot 129    

Mexico, 1861, Second Issue, 8r black on red brown, quadrisect, Oaxaca, left portion of a triangular split, on 1861 folded letter sheet to Tuxla tied by boxed Tehuantepec date stamp (Schatzkes 1070); some ink erosion in address panel, F.-V.F., the Schimmer-Bash census with only 4 triangular quadrisects were found among 1,200 first and second issue splits, truly rare; with 1995 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

Mexico, 1864-66, Eagle, 3c brown, cons 48-1866, no gum, margins large to slightly in at upper right, bright and fresh, small thin at top, F.-V.F. appearance; with 1994 A.P.S. certificate.

Mexico, 1864-66, Eagle, 3c brown, Mexico, cons 48-1866, tied on piece by Mexico circular date stamp cancel, clear to ample margins, rich color and crisp impression, Very Fine and rare, a choice sound used example of the 3c Eagle issue; with 1987 & 2010 M.E.P.S.I. certificates.
Scott Nos. 18; $3,250    Estimate $2,500 - 3,500.

There are approximately 75-80 stamp recorded of this stamp but only 5-6 are known cancelled, let alone on piece. The stamp was meant for mail to be placed in mailboxes throughout the city to be delivered at once in this failed experiment for a local city service. Those stamps were not cancelled, although they were used. only covers delivered at the post office directly were canceled.

Mexico, 1864-66, Eagle Group, of 4 attractive singles; ½r Jalapa unused cons 8-1866 sub 5 (20d), two first period 2r orange issues with cancels Amecameca (sub 23) Chalco and Cordova (Schatzkes 90), and 1r blue from Chalco-Amecameca cons 195-1865, sub 4, Very Fine (N.F. $232).

Mexico, 1864, Eagle (2nd Period), ½r brown, Morelia, cons 141-1864, large circular Morelia cancel (Schatzkes 900), well balanced margins, Very Fine, an exceptional example of this rare Eagle issue, with only 100 sent; with 2002 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

Mexico, 1864, Eagle (1st Period), ½r brown, without district overprint, Lagos, boxed Lagos (Schatzkes 664) and manuscript cancels, wide margins, tiny pinhole and Bash handstamp slightly bleeding though, otherwise Very Fine, still very attractive and rare, with only 200 sent (N.F. $850+), ex-Bash; with 2002 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.
